LEAVING A LEGACY

Seniors are leaders on this team that impact the future runners on this team. They leave the shed better then they found it. Below is a history of our seniors leaders and what they have done to impact this team.
CLASS OF 2022
Picture
"I think Brendan has impacted me the most. He has made practice, meets, and basically everything involved with cross country entertaining. He also brought me to summer running for a while. The quote of the day also made races much better. Jaben has been a great leader as a senior. He always helps if somebody needs it, and overall is just a great teammate."  Aidan Ohanyan

"Out of all the seniors Gabe affected me the most. Gabe brought me to and from practice everyday. Although I might've annoyed him at times, he was still really nice to me." Jason Van Dyken

"Carson was both a dear friend and a great running buddy throughout the season. Carson always brought and gave a smile to painful run and jokes to an easy run. Thanks for always running with me." Ryan Scholten

"Jaben always would the whole team excited for running and encouraged us to try our best. He also always talked to us in the hall as he saw us walking by."
Owen Rowell

"They are encouraging me everyday to keep going" Tanek Burt

"Thank you Luke and Gabe for always being kind and saying hello to me in the hallways. Carson for being a good friend. All the seniors thanks for giving me words of encouragement and inspiring me to run my hardest." Tucker Wolf

"Jake probably had the most impact out of all the seniors. He has great leadership skills and is respected by rest of the team. He always expected the best from everyone and was very supportive. He also gave me rides home sometimes too. Also one time he gave me a donut, so that was cool. I do give him food everyday so maybe I deserved it. Anyways Jake is pretty cool."  Dylan Leyendecker

"Terp has helped and encouraged me this season so much. Before every race he has hyped me up and has helped stretch."   Isaiah Gillette

"Alex has made an impact on me as runner by always pushing me to do my best everyday. And always being positive even on the hardest workouts. Brendan has made an impact by just always having a smile. While you watch people at workouts, their face look like they just watched their pet die. When you watch Brendan run, and when you talk to him you can tell he really enjoys running, and loves being here.  Jaben has been an impact on me by always being so humble, he broke the school record of 30 years and I have never heard him brag about being the best."
    Isaac Anderson

"Carson England has made the biggest impact on my xc career. Carson is such a change of pace from the other seniors. One time Carson took me to taco bell. In conversation we discussed our futures. He gave me tons of tips, tricks, and what to expect in the sat or AP exams. Carson has made the most impact on me in cross country not just on the course but in the desk. "  Tyler Watson

"Dylan Terpstra brings me to school and home from practice everyday. He hangs out with the freshmen at practice. He's got the dog in him."   Carter Bolhouse

"Carson is such a great friend. When I was new this year he became one of my friends, and that helped me be less worried about being new at school."
   Mason Leenheer

"Dear Ryan, Thank you so much for making my day every day. I come into Coach Bolhuis's room everyday thinking oh man I don't want to run, but I see you everyday ready to go. Thanks."      Jeff Brink

"The seniors Id like to mention are Jake, Jaben and Brendan as I feel that they left the most impact on me. They are constant leaders, role models, and great examples. All of them have made a significant impact on my season." Dylan Pfeffer

"Jaben Thank you always being kind and helping me push myself to the limit. And Jake he always will make practice fun even when its the most dull days."
      Noah Bower

"I think they have all impacted me in someway. Especially Jaben he has inspired me to push myself and to believe in myself. "   Will Pennington

"While I could say great things about all the seniors, the 3 that really impacted me were Brendan, Jaben, and Ryan. With Brendan he brought so much energy to the team and made practices fun. Jaben always was one of the hardest workers on the team, he was also very humble even though he broke the school record and could have been full of himself if wanted to be. Finally Ryan was always nice to everybody. He was pretty quiet but always held doors open for people and was kind to everybody."      Evan Ball

"Brendan impacted me the most. He helped me in hundreds of ways not just this year but last year as well. Between pushing me to be a better runner and being an inclusive and amazing dodgeball player Brendan doesn't just impact me but others on the team in a good way. Thank you Brendan. "  Cole Hinterman

"Brendan impacted me in being fun at practice and dodgeball. Jaben impacted me by always supporting me at meets." Isaiah Baker

"Jaben really thoughtful guy very encouraging always making me feel good whether Ive been knocked down or doing good. Jake I love how he gets everybody hyped up and ready for the run. He always try to take the lead and I like how he prays for us."
    Logan Snoap

"Although almost every senior has impacted me during my time running cross country, from Jake taking me under his wing from day one and being an inspiration to keep pushing and keep growing not only as a runner but as a person. Someone else that impacted me is LaFrenier his mere presence on runs and team meetings always lifted me and yalmaz mood more then we thought could be possible as a captain and as a friend. "   Foster Boak

"A senior who has had a really big impact on me would be Brendan. He always makes sure everyone is ok and if something is off he makes sure to contact coach or help you himself. He also gives us a quote before every race in order to make us think about something other then the pain in our lungs and legs. This dude is awesome and I can't thank him enough for everything he has done."
     Garrett Smith

"The senior I would like to highlight that changed my life was Brendan LaFrenier. He would always push me to be better whether it be teasing me by saying, "There are 3 certain in life death and taxes and beating Yalmaz or by inspiring us with his pre race quotes. Whenever I would feel like giving up Id look over and see Brendan and think what would Brendan do. His mere presence was enough to keep me pushing through races and finish them up."    Yalmaz Javaid

"Luke Martin has impacted me in a positive way by always encouraging me along with saying hi to me in the hallways and asking me how my day was going. He was made me look forward coming to practice everyday."  Nathan Kunzi

"Jaben left a legacy because he always pushed me to try my hardest and I want to follow in his footsteps."   Cam Kidwell

"The senior who had the biggest impact on me would be Jaben because he helped me push myself to be great and he knew how to connect with people."
     Noah Reinsma

"Luke Martin has a multitude of tremendous qualities that he had brought to improve the team however the quality that had stood out to me and influenced me the most was his ability to take interest in the incoming freshmen. I truly believe that the freshmen and therefore the team is better because of him."
    Grayson Lentner

"Gabe was always there with me on runs in beginning of my career. He was similar pace which meant we ran together a lot. I got to know him more then any other senior and appreciate how good of a friend he is. Luke was one of the first guys to welcome me when I started winter running. He would always hold doors and ask how was your day was but once you really got to know him he was much kinder and thoughtful then he first appears. Jaben was someone that a lot of runners look up to and so do I. However something that I think is much greater about Jaben is his abilities at leading and helping people on the team to push themselves. Jake was someone I wasn't sure about at first but once I got to know him and he opened up more I realized that he has a mind for running and teamwork. Out of everyone he was always leading team chants at races and supporting us. Brendan loves to joke and have fun with us but his best quality is truly caring about people and wanting to see them succeed. He would ask about my runs during school and ask how I was doing just because he felt like it."  Logan Toland

"The first person I want to recognize is Jaben there is nothing specific but it is all the little things, he is always willing to help and I feel like I could trust him he also inspires me to do better and just because he beat the school record he encourages me to keep going. Carson I first met in track and has always been such a good friend and I would consider him a friend."    Cayden Apol

" Hearing his times when he was a freshmen and has given me hope for my future in xc and dylan because he's been a really good friend. "   Noah Jenkins

"Luke has always been deeper then a captain. He has been a friend and helped me at my lowest. He is always so positive and it has truly been an honor to run with him."   Liam VanHouten

"Brendan connected with me all the way back when he was sophomore, talking about cold showers, seeing him change through the years and become a better person, better runner and keeping the atmosphere joyful has been a positive influence on my life and cold shower are still bad. Jake Rottier has been a great motivator and leader through all his years on the team. Carson has always kept a positive attitude and is great with connecting with others."  Nic VanderKodde

"I think that all of the seniors some impact me in one way or another. I think 4 stood out to me. Carson and Dylan were able to make good friends with me and other freshmen. Jaben broke the school record even though I could never run a 15:50 like he did but he still cheered me on. The one supporting me from day one was Brendan I don't think I would still be running without him."   Aidan Vermeulen

"Matthew was the nicest kid on the team. He always said hi to me in the hallway and always there for positive energy. Lorenzo was the funniest kid on the team and laid back and chill, always a good time to talk to him, always made me laugh." Foster Boak

"Billy and Jacob were always pushing me and also always giving me a ride home if I needed it. " Tucker Wolf

"Matthew Kunzi has been a real inspirational leader. He has always listen to what I said and encourage me. Jesper came from a different country and was really friendly and takes guts to do that." Luke Rottier

"The senior that was the most encouraging to me is Matthew because me and him would laugh and joke all the time. It felt good to laugh and that was always good encouragement to run faster. " Ryan Van Dyken

"A senior I appreciated this season was Matthew. I think he really helped when I started late with helping me understand workouts and is just an all around pretty sick guy." Zach VanDerMeulen

"Someone who has really helped me would be Matthew Kunzi. He was always very kind to the freshmen (unlike others) and showed us the ropes. He was also very supportive to everybody on the team and Im glad I got to be on the same team as him. Im totally not saying this because his dad was my 7th grade math teacher." Garrett Smith

" All five seniors on our team have been very impactful. Billy has always been super kind and funny. McCuaig has always been a good person to talk with . "I think Matthew Kunzi was a great leader and was very encouraging at practice and in races." Brady O'Brien

"Matthew Kunzi is a senior who has not once felt a negative impact on me. He is incredible captain but what has left more of an impact on me is how he's always carried the responsibilites of a captain in getting to know everybody and keeping everybody together as well as just being a great dude, long before he was actually a captain. Matthew brings excitement to recovery runs and he always finds a way to make practice more energetic and he has always seen the epitome of what a cross country runner should be. " Luke Martin

Both of them chase are this ideal everyday and you can see it in their workouts. See in in their 5k times. They work hard to get where they are and never slack.
