Info For New RUNNERS

Picture
Incoming freshmen and first time runners of the team this is the spot to get information to be ready for your first season of Cross Country/Track and Field.

Things That You Need:
  • A watch with a timer at least but a GPS running watch would be preferred
  • Running Shoes -  A good cushioned shoe for a new runner. Stay away from saucony kinvara, nike free, brooks pure flow or other minimal shoes. I think of shoes like wands from harry potter. The wand chooses the wizard. Same thing with shoes, everyones foot fits a shoe differently. Find yours.
  • Cross Country Spikes- Spikes are not a necessity to compete but will greatly help you run a faster time. You can find spikes on amazon, running warehouse and eastbay and other running shoe websites.
  • Running clothes- Appropriate gear when its cold. Be prepared with layers. Pay attention to weather when you wake up for the day. Lightweight clothing when it's hot.
  • Bring a water bottle to all practices
  • Running in high school is the next step, a long run for most will be anywhere from 6-14 miles. Weekly miles from 30-70. Training is done individually based on your running history and physiology. Moving up in training will depend on how you adapt to the running you do.
  • PREHAB are the drills we do to stay injury free and make us faster stronger runners.
  • Sleep 8 hours a night is crucial for recovery from training
  • Eating a balanced diet is equally important as well. Make sure you eat within an hour of every run you do especially workouts. Your muscles need food to repair themselves after hard workouts.
  • Take care of physical, waiver, fee before the season starts.
  • Any questions, concerns always ask a captain, teammate, coach. Everyone is here to help.
  • Positivity goes a long ways in running but also to your teammates and your coaches as well.
